Managing Your Finances as a Couple

Once you’ve planned your finances together, it’s time to consider how you’re going to manage them. Think about this as an ongoing process. The types of accounts you use and the way you budget, for example, will change over time as your relationship evolves and your needs change.

Be sure to schedule a time each month to sit down and talk about your finances, so that both of you stay on the same page and money doesn’t become a point of stress in your relationship.

Budgeting is an important part of any financial plan. It can help you monitor your spending, meet your savings goals, and give you a sense of financial control together. Take a look at our tips on making a budget as a couple and use our budget calculator to help you get started.

Some other issues to think about as you plan are opening a joint account, how your relationship affects your taxes, or your insurance needs as a couple.
