Managing your finances can seem like a big job and it can be hard to figure out what to do first. Opening an account is a good place to start. In Canada, you have the right to open a bank account as long as you have proper identification. For more information, see Opening a Personal Bank Account: Understanding your rights.

You may find that you need different types of accounts to manage your financial life. For example, most people have a chequing account to manage their day-to-day expenses. It is also a good idea to open a savings account to help you set up an emergency fund for unexpected expenses or to help you save for your long-term financial goals.

FCAC has the tools and information to help you choose the personal banking options that are right for you.
